This Star Wars-Inspired Animation Was Made in 3 Days With Maya & UE5

M.P. Rabie, who usually works on previs and postvis, set up the sequence to showcase his artistic skills.

M.P. Rabie, a Director and Co-Owner at Day for Nite, has recently unveiled a fun little Star Wars-inspired 3D animation, set up with the goal of creating something that can "entertain an average consumer".

According to Rabie, his tasks revolve primarily around previs and postvis, and therefore, he usually doesn't have anything substantial to show to his friends, relatives, and people on the Internet who ask to see his works.

To amend this injustice and showcase his artistic skills, the artist made a smooth sequence depicting a clumsy Stormtrooper accidentally unaliving his friend with a lightsaber while trying to show off. The author also noted that it took him only around three days to complete the project from start to finish.

Besides showcasing the project itself, Rabie also shared an insightful rundown, explaining how the sequence was made. In his rundown, the author disclosed that he animated both characters in Maya, modeled and textured the lightsaber by hand, blocked out the scene, made the rigs compatible with Unreal Engine 5, took everything to the engine, created 3D materials, utilized Megascans and UE5's Niagara to decorate the scene with assets and set up VFX, and exported it all to AE for post-processing.

In the future, the creator also plans to share a "fun breakdown" of the project, so we highly encourage you to follow Rabie on LinkedIn so as not to miss any upcoming updates.
