This UE5-Powered Horror Game Combines Resident Evil & Dead Space

Have a look at CRISPR, an upcoming third-person horror being created by a Solo Game Developer.

Today, let's have a closer look at some of the impressive work-in-progress demos shared by Solo Game Developer known only as Clinton for CRISPR, a third-person survival action horror game inspired by Resident Evil and Dead Space franchises, as well as such sci-fi horror classics as Alien and The Thing.

Having been in development since early 2023, CRISPR was inspired by CRISPR Cas9, a gene-editing technology that actually exists in real life and was even used to insert a GIF into the genomes of living Escherichia colibacteria many years ago.

According to the developer, the game explores the outcomes that arise when the relentless drive for scientific advancement is taken to extreme lengths, along with the subsequent consequences that unfold.

In CRISPR, you play as a war veteran named John, tasked with the mission of recovering crucial samples from a high-tech underground facility teeming with shadowy corners and ravenous creatures, which John will have to eliminate utilizing an array of weaponry.

Even though there's currently no information regarding the game's release date and at what production stage it is currently on, thanks to Clinton's demo showcases that they regularly post on YouTube, we can already have a look at CRISPR's visual style, game levels, characters, monsters, and bosses and even some of its gameplay mechanics, with the list including a dismemberment mechanic, a cover mechanic to hide behind walls, a sliding mechanic, a cool interaction system inspired by The Last of Us, and more. As stated by the developer, the game is being created in Unreal Engine 5.

And here are some of the earlier demos shared by the developer:

The creator has also shared a comprehensive tutorial explaining how the aforementioned interaction system was set up in UE5:
