This Upcoming Add-On Integrates Blender's Cycles Into Modo

The add-on is being developed by Marc "TheGarf" Meijer and is currently in pre-alpha.

A couple of weeks ago, Developer and Modo enthusiast Marc Meijer, also known as TheGarf, shared a series of demos showcasing Cycles4Modo, a cool upcoming add-on that integrates Blender's physically-based path tracer for production rendering into Foundry's 3D modeling, animation, texturing, and rendering toolset.

Currently in pre-alpha, the plug-in can be used for rendering fur materials, works well with motion blur, and supports various material properties, including transparency and displacement. Below are some of the demos shared by the developer, you can check out more by clicking this link.

The plug-in was first noticed by Foundry themselves, who showcased Cycles4Modo during their Modo Livestream on May 5, 2023. During the stream, the devs praised the add-on's capabilities, with Foundry's Product Manager Greg Brown stating that the studio plans to support the release of the plug-in.

"We’re looking forward to having this as a formal plugin," commented Brown. "We know how important it is to artists using Modo to have GPU-aided rendering, and this is another option that we want to help support."
