The studio will retain creative independence and will keep developing story-driven narrative games.
Yesterday, Swedish video game holding company Thunderful Group announced it has entered into an agreement to purchase the British indie video game developer Jumpship.
The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed but the company said that the deal was expected to close on the same day. On November 15, the studio also released its debut project, an adventure video game called Somerville.
Guildford-based Jumpship was founded in 2017. It currently employs around 25 people and, according to the announcement, when the deal is closed, the studio will retain its creative independence and continue to produce "high-class" story-driven narrative titles.
Jumpship co-founder Dino Patti, who previously contributed to the development of such games as Limbo and Inside, will remain in charge of the studio and will also take on the role of strategic advisor for Thunderful Games.
"I feel really good about the partnership with Thunderful and what it will do for Jumpship," Patti commented.
"Our team sets its own course and it's great to find a partner that not only understands that but can truly support us," Jumpship studio director Claire Boissiere said. "Thunderful's established relationships with key platform holders and expertise in putting games into the hands of players gives us an infrastructure where we can focus on what we do best: crafting games that challenge our audience both emotionally and intellectually."
