Simon Trümpler shared a breakdown (project files included) of his cool slimy experiments in Houdini and Unreal.
Simon wanted to test if a tileable mesh can be moved along a spline as an alternative to Vertex Animation Textures or Alembic. The artist noted that he was inspired by loopable waterfalls in Mortal Combat.
Two liquid meshes in this simulation are moving along a spline (both are 5 times behind each other on the spline rotating around for variation). The artist added that motion blur doesn't work here.
"The pool is animated via vertex-shader and re-normalized. I've also added some fake-SSS (as emissive color) because the SSS-material itself wasn't enough," wrote the artist.
