Trine 5: A Clockwork Conspiracy Announced and Launching This Summer

The cooperative fantasy puzzle game is back with its fifth installment.

Trine 5: A Clockwork Conspiracy, the newest addition to the puzzle-platforming adventure series, has been announced and is set to arrive soon. The game features a new storyline where the Heroes of Trine must unite once more to protect their world from a formidable and perilous Clockwork Army.

To begin with, Trine 5 returns to the series' original 2.5D side-scrolling perspective, following Trine 3's less successful attempt to transition into full 3D in 2015. The game seems to be sticking to the formula of the first, second, and fourth installments, as evidenced by the snippets revealed so far retaining the stunning colors and distinctive environments that have become a defining feature of the series.

Trine 5 will feel instantly recognizable to fans, as players once again assume the roles of the three beloved heroes from the previous games. The trio must traverse stunning landscapes, overcome obstacles, and fight foes to rescue the world of Trine from a malicious duo who commands a formidable army of clockwork knights.

The latest installment, of course, introduces fresh gameplay elements, including new abilities for all three characters. For instance, Amadeus the Wizard can now manipulate gravity, among other things, Zoya the Thief can use ricochet arrows, and Pontius the Knight has a new sword that he can throw to construct improvised platforms or to attach a rope, forming a convenient bridge.

Trine 5 also features new gameplay elements such as air, light, magnets, and electricity, which add greater complexity to the puzzles. Developer Frozenbyte has also spent considerable effort on customizing the difficulty levels, allowing players to fine-tune the gameplay to suit their preferences.

Additionally, Frozenbyte noted that the new installment is set to be the longest Trine game to date. According to the information from HowLongToBeat.com, the previous record-holder in the series was Trine 4: The Nightmare Prince, which has a main story plus extras completion time of 10-12 hours. This suggests that Trine 5 will take players beyond the 12-hour mark.

Trine 5: A Clockwork Conspiracy is scheduled to be released this "summer". The game will be available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC via Steam, Epic Games Store, and GOG.
