The SideFX team has recently uploaded a new tutorial that will teach you how to work with texture loading in Houdini 19.5. In this tutorial, VFX/LookDev Artist Rich Fry, a.k.a. Hypershader, demonstrated how to use Primvars to automate texture loading using Karma Material Subnet and MaterialX, shared the workflow, and shared some advice regarding the technique. For demonstration, the artist utilized a free Poly Haven asset converted to USD, you can learn more and download the asset here.
The team also noted that this method of texture loading is only suitable for the 19.5 version of the software. "SideFX aims to develop a simpler method to handle this task in a future version of Houdini. In the future, this tutorial will be updated to reflect that change," commented the team.
