Tutorial: Create Your First Nanite Foliage In Unreal Engine 5

In this video, Dallas Drapeau explains the process and pros and cons of creating and using full-geo Nanite foliage.

Following up on Principal Artist in Games and Virtual Production Dallas Drapeau's previous video addressing common misconceptions about Unreal Engine 5's optimization features, this new tutorial serves as an introductory yet comprehensive guide to help you kickstart your foliage journey with Nanite.

Dallas argues that since Epic Games will continue to improve both Lumen and Nanite, it's better to familiarize yourself with these technologies early on so you can effectively integrate and utilize them in your projects from the start. He covers the pros and cons of using Nanite foliage and walks through the entire creation process, including steps in Maya, ZBrush, and SpeedTree, sharing optimization tips and tricks along the way.

With professional experience as a teacher at Gnomon, Dallas often makes educational YouTube videos to share his expertise and insights with the community.  Check out the ones below and see more on his YouTube channel:
