Tutorial: Viewfinder's Reality-Bending Mechanic In Unity

Learn how to reshape your surroundings with an instant camera and get a free project file.

You've likely heard of Viewfinder, the perception-bending puzzle game that gained widespread attention with its release last year. What sets it apart from other surreal games is its unique core mechanic: an instant camera that lets players reshape their environment and reveal hidden areas, challenging to navigate levels and solve puzzles by altering reality itself.

In the interview with 80 Level earlier this year, Sad Owl Studios' Game Director Matt Stark revealed that the main challenge was the camera's mechanic and the performance cost of taking a photo and placing it. Now, the ToughNutToCrack team took on an ambitious challenge, working to deconstruct and understand how to bring it to life in Unity.
