In case you missed it

Previous version

Epic Games released Twinmotion 2022.2 Preview 1 – an update to its real-time visualization tool offering some quality of life improvements.

The most notable upgrade is the ability to import multiple files simultaneously. The workflow is now categorized into two types: Datasmith-compatible files and non-Datasmith 3D files. If you import files of the same type, they will have the same settings, otherwise, the UI will change offering different options.

Version 2022.2 also introduces 4 new asset packs: High Tech Pack, Musical Instruments Pack, Winter Pack, and Shopping Pack. Epic Games is going to add even more assets soon, so Posed Humans have been split into several categories.

You can now increase UV precision for Datasmith file import, which will solve the issue of UVs on tiny geometries requiring more precision to be correctly interpreted instead of being destroyed.

The export formats now also include JPEG and EXR in addition to PNG. However, color gradient is not taken into consideration in the EXR outputs.

Another change concerns the texture compression algorithm, which is now applied on textures reducing the memory requirements. According to the creators, you can expect around 75% texture memory saving with almost no visual quality impact.

Twinmotion 2022.2 also opens its doors to Windows 11 and macOS Monterey users. M1 chips are still not supported.

Twinmotion is available for Windows 10+ and macOS 10.14.6+. The MSRP for it is $499 for a perpetual license; there is also a free trial.
