Twitch has added new labels replacing its Mature Content toggle for livestreams, according to a blog post. The new labels are more descriptive, so streamers can be more specific about what their viewers might see. This change comes as part of Twitch's commitment to community safety.
The new labels include Mature-Rated Games, Sexual Themes, Drugs, Intoxication, or Excessive Tobacco Use, Violent and Graphic Depictions, Significant Profanity or Vulgarity, and Gambling. A game and a streamer are both subject to the ratings. For instance, Twitch will automatically identify a mature-rated game if you are playing one. However, if you're using excessive profanity while playing, you must toggle your livestream as containing a lot of coarse language.
You can access Content Classification Labels under the language control in the Edit Stream Info in the Stream Manager. The six options will appear in a pull-down menu, each with a brief description.
In its blog post, Twitch noted that it’s not updating its community guidelines; instead, it’s just offering more specific labels for certain types of content. Streamers who don’t label their streams will receive an email warning, and the correct label will be applied. "Streamers will not receive suspensions for failing to label correctly their streams," according to Twitch, but if a streamer doesn't use the correct labels after "multiple warnings," their channel may be locked for a few days or weeks.
