The employees criticized the management at the latest Q&A session.
Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot reportedly apologized for the "ball is in your court" comment said last week. At a Q&A session this Wednesday, he had to face some burning questions from the company's employees.
"The ball is now in our court – for years it has been in your court so why did you mishandle the ball so badly so we, the workers, have to fix it for you?" said one of the submitted questions viewed by Kotaku. In response to the staff's rage, Guillemot explained that he was misunderstood.
"I heard your feedback and I’m sorry this was perceived that way," he said. "When saying ‘the ball is in your court’ to deliver our lineup on time and at the expected level of quality, I wanted to convey the idea that more than ever I need your talent and energy to make it happen. This is a collective journey that starts of course with myself and with the leadership team to create the conditions for all of us to succeed together."
The speech might have placated some, but others still feel the management is disconnected from reality, trying to chase trends and produce sequels in the studio's major franchises, which stay similar in almost every game.
According to Kotaku, Ubisoft rejected proposals for raises and four-day work weeks, saying the company needs to reduce costs and increase productivity. No one addressed the recent call for a strike at the Paris studio.
It looks like we will mostly see new parts of Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Tom Clancy from Ubisoft in the nearest future. Unless the several-times-delayed Skull and Bones finally gets released.
