The Guillemot family is in talks with Tencent over a potential deal.
Ubisoft
According to a recent report, the Ubisoft buyout is currently being negotiated, and the founding family wishes to complete it without losing control.
As reported by Reuters, the founding Guillemot family is negotiating with Tencent, the second-largest shareholder and a Chinese tech and media giant, over a "management-led" buyout of the Assassin's Creed video game maker, which is the largest company in the sphere in France. The Guillemot family reportedly wants to retain control over the company as a part of an acquisition, while Tencent is contemplating the possibility of the deal now.
Tencent had previously expressed the intention to have "a greater say" in future board decisions, such as cash flow distribution, in return for financing the deal. However, the Chinese company also doesn't want other investors to have a potential hostile takeover of Ubisoft.
The news about Tencent acquiring Ubisoft appeared in October, when it was reported that the two parties were exploring ways to stabilize Ubisoft and increase its value, with one possibility being a joint effort to take the company private. Shortly after, Ubisoft confirmed the report, stating that it was indeed considering several "strategic options" to meet the needs and expectations of its stakeholders.
