Ubisoft claims that the game shows better performance than the now-canceled battle royale Hyper Scape.
The support for Ubisoft’s free-to-play sports title Roller Champions may reportedly be discontinued only a few months after its launch, according to recent rumors.
Speaking on the XboxEra Podcast, former GamesBeat editor and Giant Bomb journalist Jeff Grubb claimed that the online sports action game may be one of the Ubisoft games that will be shut down amid low performance. "Roller Champions is gonna be canceled after Season 3," Grubb said reading a message from his source. He, however, didn't share any additional details regarding the title's cancellation.
During the latest financial call, Ubisoft claimed that Roller Champions shows better results compared to the Hyper Scape, a battle royale that was closed in April 2022, only a year after its 2020 release.
Roller Champions was released on May 25 this year and received several seasons of content following its launch. Season 3 launched just a month ago, bringing new maps, game modes, and a season pass to the game. However, since the game's release its popularity has reportedly significantly dropped – for instance, its average audience on Twitch has already fallen to 100-200 viewers.
Ubisoft has also recently canceled a few projects including Ghost Recon Frontline and Splinter Cell VR, as well as two more titles that had not been announced. In its financial report, the company also revealed that the upcoming game based on James Cameron's Avatar film series, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, will be delayed until at least April 2023.
