Ubisoft is reportedly developing a new social sim based on a voxel creation under the codename Alterra. The game was allegedly inspired by Animal Crossing.
According to Insider Gaming, the project has been in development for over 1.5 years and was created after the cancellation of another voxel-style game that had been in development for approximately four years.
The new game will reportedly be set on an island inhabited by interactable NPCs called Matterlings. These creatures are different in species and inspired by fictional and real-life animals, combining features of dragons, birds, polar bears, etc. Players will be able to travel to other worlds rich with their own lore, featuring various biomes, other types of Matterlings, enemies, and materials and allowing for interaction with other players.
The voxel-creation game resembles Minecraft's building mechanics. To construct something, players need to gather materials. For instance, to create snow and ice structures, they have to embark on an adventure to an ice world inhabited by snow-ice Matterlings.
