Ubisoft's Unrevealed Project Looks an Awful Lot Like XDefiant

"Finally, YDefiant."

Over six months after the community first learned about Project Scout, Ubisoft's yet-to-be-announced Apex Legends-inspired Battle Royale game, a few new details have emerged online, putting the spotlight back on the mysterious project and revealing additional information about it, along with a couple of WIP screenshots hinting at the game's art style and setting.

The first inside scoop comes from Shiiny77, a well-known Rainbow Six and XDefiant insider, who shared on Twitter that the game is shaping up to be a large-scale FPS set in a sci-fi world, featuring crossplay, multiplayer, competitive modes, and possibly powered by Unreal Engine 5. Additionally, the insider mentioned having seen Project Scout's gameplay – describing it as "VERY sci-fi looking" and suggesting that gamers might not like it – though no gameplay has been showcased publicly.

In the comments, Tom Henderson – who revealed Project Scout to the world in the first place – made an appearance, essentially confirming that the game he wrote about in April and the one described by Shiiny77 are one and the same.

The second insight came shortly after from 6leaks, who showcased a couple of screenshots reportedly from the game, demonstrating what looks like a loading screen and one of Scout's WIP maps.

Following the release of the screenshots, the project's visual similarities to XDefiant, Ubisoft's failed 2024 first-person shooter that was taken offline just over a year after launch, haven't gone unnoticed by the community, which humorously dubbed Project Scout "YDefiant," "Tom Clancy's HyperDefiant," and "XDefiant 2: Electric Boogaloo," predicting the game could meet the same fate.

As always, the materials shared by insiders – as well as Project Scout's very existence – have yet to be acknowledged by Ubisoft, so take the info and the screenshots with a grain of salt.
