Ubisoft's eagerly awaited, free-to-play shooter, XDefiant, developed in part by former Call of Duty boss Mark Rubin, ran into significant server issues almost instantly after going live.
This situation left numerous players unable to join matches, leading to a swift outpouring of frustration on social media. Some players reported only being able to play one match in several hours, if they were able to play at all.
Mark Rubin, the game's head, recognized the server problems by posting a gif of two hamsters running in a wheel:
The tech team is hard at work sorting things out, and the official Twitter account has been dropping a few updates saying that things are on the upswing. Their latest post, which was about 6 hours ago when this article was being written, confirmed progress has been made and they will continue to work on resolving the issue.
It's worth noting that while XDefiant is free to play, it generates revenue through microtransactions. Ubisoft has clarified that players can purchase a variety of in-game extras like character cosmetics, weapon cosmetics and player animations, but assured there will be no "no pay-to-win mechanics."
