Ubisoft Shuts Down Its Studio in Leamington, Fires 185 Employees

The studio previously worked on Star Wars Outlaws, Skull and Bones, and Far Cry 5.

The consequences of Ubisoft's numerous failed games, controversies, and poor management in 2024 have seemingly caught up to them in 2025, with the company announcing the shutdown of Ubisoft Leamington, their UK-based studio acquired in 2017 from Activision and formerly known as FreeStyleGames.

According to reports, Ubisoft's Leamington team of around 50 employees will be disbanded, while other Ubisoft offices in Düsseldorf, Stockholm, and the Newcastle-upon-Tyne-based Ubisoft Reflections will be downsized, leading to 185 terminated employees across these offices. As part of Ubisoft, the Leamington branch worked on games such as Star Wars Outlaws, Skull and Bones, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, Tom Clancy's The Division 2, and Far Cry 5.

"As part of our ongoing efforts to prioritise projects and reduce costs that ensure long-term stability at Ubisoft, we have announced targeted restructurings at Ubisoft Düsseldorf, Ubisoft Stockholm, and Ubisoft Reflections and the permanent closure of Ubisoft Leamington site," Ubisoft told Eurogamer. "Unfortunately, this should impact 185 employees overall. We are deeply grateful for their contributions and are committed to supporting them through this transition."

Earlier it was reported that Tencent and Ubisoft's founding Guillemot family are considering cutting off a part of Ubisoft and leveraging the company's assets to form an entirely new venture, currently evaluating which assets to include in a potential new entity and determining their value. With the company being a shell of its former self, it seems that should Assassin's Creed Shadows – recently delayed until March 20 – fail, there will be more unfortunate headlines about Ubisoft employees being laid off.
