Umbrella Academy's Steve Blackman to Adapt Horizon Netflix Series

The writer confirmed that the series will "take place a thousand years in the future, in a world completely remade by massive machines" and Aloy will remain the main character.

The news that Sony is working on a TV show based on Guerrilla Games' Horizon Zero Dawn and Forbidden West first appeared in May, although back then, the company hasn't revealed too much about the upcoming series except the fact that Horizon will be aired on Netflix.

And now we learned that Steve Blackman who helped bring Netflix's The Umbrella Academy to streaming is heading up the upcoming Horizon show. Blackman's involvement in the show was reported by Deadline on Thursday where the writer revealed that he's developing the series together with Michelle Lovretta, who also serves as co-showrunner.

In an interview with Netflix's Tudum blog, Blackment seemingly confirmed that the Horizon show will not go too far from the source material as, according to him, the series will "take place a thousand years in the future, in a world completely remade by massive machines" and Aloy will remain the main character in the show.

"Horizon Zero Dawn is an exceptionally well-crafted game with wonderful characters not often seen in the rank-and-file of the gaming world. Guerrilla Games has created an incredibly lush and vivid world of man and machine who find themselves on a collision course to oblivion," he said. "Their salvation comes in the form of a young female warrior named Aloy, who has no idea she’s the key to saving the world. Suffice it to say, yes, Aloy will be a main character in our story."

The project is currently in the very early stages of production, so still not much is known about it – we haven't had a word of any casting or a release date yet. However, according to journalist Jeff Grubb, the show might be named Horizon 2074 and might include the production talent that has previously worked on The Boys and The Expanse.
