Unity Announces Price Increase for Unity Pro, Unity Enterprise & UIC

Unity will raise prices for Unity Pro, Unity Enterprise, and Unity Industrial Collection by $200-$600. The company noted that the updated price "reflects the value" of Unity's products today.

Yesterday, Unity announced that it is raising prices for several tiers. The changes will concern Unity Pro, Unity Enterprise, and Unity Industrial Collection. In a statement, the company explained that it is increasing the cost of the products, which it noted, has not changed for three years, as the updated price "reflects the value of [Unity's] products today."

The plans that will be affected by the price change provide developers with the ability to create builds for consoles and access the source code of the engine. Enterprise plan subscribers can also modify the engine to suit their needs. Typically, these plans are used by development teams with annual revenues of more than $200,000.

Here are the plans that were affected by the price changes:

  • Unity Pro prepaid yearly will increase from $1,800 to $2,040 a year;
  • Unity Pro paid monthly will increase from $150 to $185 a month;
  • Unity Enterprise annual prepaid pricing will be raised from $2,400 to $3,000 per year;
  • Unity Industrial Collection (UIC) plan will increase from $2,520 to $2,950 per year.

Unity also said that new and existing plans of Unity Pro will also include Unity Mars and Havok Physics for Unity with the release of Unity 2022.2 this fall. Besides, new and existing plans of Unity Enterprise will receive an additional year of Long Term Support (from two years to three years) starting with 2021 LTS. In addition, Enterprise plans will also include several new support offerings as well as Unity Mars and Havok Physics for Unity following Unity 2022.2 release.

The changes will come into effect on October 13, 2022 for new Unity Pro, Unity Enterprise, and UIC customers, while for existing Unity Pro, Unity Enterprise, and UIC customers, the new pricing will be effective starting their next renewal date on or after October 13, 2022.

Unity stated that the price change will not affect Unity Personal or Unity Plus plans for solo developers and small studios. According to the company, Unity Personal will remain free to creators with revenue or funding below $100,000 in the past year as the company said it is "committed to ensuring Unity continues to be accessible to the millions of students, hobbyists, and indies starting out on their game development journeys."

As expected, the public has negatively reacted to the news about the price increase. Several developers noted that the change in cost did not match the quality of the product. One Twitter user also noted that the email they received from Unity did not include updated prices and they had to search for them on the company's website.
