Unity Reportedly Rolls Out Annual Fee For Enterprise Customers Starting At $250K

The amount of this "minimum commitment," from $250,000 to $2,000,000, is determined by last year's gross revenue.

As reported by Mobilegamer.biz, citing a customer email, Unity appears to be introducing a new annual fee aimed at larger customers, requiring a "minimum commitment" ranging from $250,000 to $2 million.

This fee would probably add to the 5% price increases for Enterprise and Pro customers, effective January 12. Mobilegamer.biz's sources claim that Unity Technologies has threatened to revoke licenses if customers fail to pay this new fee. Here's what Unity's email says:

"If you are required to use Unity Enterprise based on the Unity Software Tier Eligibility detailed in the Unity Editor Software Terms, you will be subject to the Unity Enterprise Minimum Commitment Program ('Program').

This Program requires that you pay Unity a specified minimum commitment amount at the commencement of each Subscription Year, which will be applied towards your purchase of Unity subscription license and support products ('Unity Products')."

The table below outlines how the minimum commitment amount is calculated based on gross revenue over the previous twelve months:

This isn't the first time Unity has surprised developers with new fees, recalling the widely criticized Runtime Fee back in 2023.
