Luke Azael shared his test results.
This video explores the performance differences between Unreal Engine 5.5 and 5.6 using the Dark Ruins sample, a free project from Quixel that features Lumen Hardware Ray Tracing and Mega-Lights.
Initial benchmarking indicates that Unreal Engine 5.6 seems to run about 1 to 4 milliseconds faster than 5.5, which can mean a 10 to 20 FPS difference in some cases. According to Luke Azael, it also suggests improvements in Lumen, Nanite, and Mega-Lights. However, a deeper understanding of what's changed under the hood will likely come during Unreal Fest, where Epic Games is expected to provide more technical insights.
Regarding specs, the developer used NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 4070 with 12GB of VRAM, an AMD Ryzen 9 7900X 12-core processor, and 64GB of DDR5 RAM running at 6400MHz.
In case you missed it, the preview for Unreal Engine 5.6 just dropped, bringing major updates to the animation toolset, MetaHuman Creator, and more.
