With Christmas getting closer and closer, the question about presents becomes more relevant. Recently, the Entertainment Software Association has conducted research that will come in handy for parents who struggle with choosing a present for their children.
The survey was conducted among children and teenagers aged 10 to 17 in the US to determine their Christmas gift preferences. The results revealed that 72% of respondents expressed interest in receiving video game-related presents. The most popular choices among American children were digital subscriptions to gaming services and consoles, with only 22% specifically desiring physical copies of games.
Here are the top gift choices according to the survey's multiple-choice options:
- Subscriptions – 39%
- Consoles – 38%
- Games accessories – 32%
- In-game currency – 29%
- Physical games – 22%
In addition, the ESA also asked over 500 adults about their Christmas shopping plans. Results showed that 57% of respondents were considering purchasing video game-related gifts for themselves or others. It's interesting to note that one-third of adults said they planned to give video games as gifts.
When it came to American parents, game-related presents ranked highest, followed by money or gift cards (70%) and appliances/electronics (62%). Books came in last place with 26% expressing interest in gifting them.
"More than 212 million Americans play video games regularly, so it comes as no surprise that games are at the top of this year's wish lists," shared Stanley Pierre-Louis, the president and CEO of the ESA.
Speaking of games, recently the developer behind Dave the Diver released a 22-minute gameplay video showing the mechanics of their new game called Nakwon: Last Paradise.
