Unreal Engine 5 enthusiast Amit Mehar, whose work we've featured before on 80 Level, continues his exploration of Niagara, this time experimenting with a new method for displaying damage on surfaces.
This approach is based on Amit's own Niagara Procedural Mesh plug-in, which allows Niagara systems to generate geometry at runtime and render using a custom renderer. As the developer explained, each character would likely need a distinct Niagara system. While no stats have been collected on the setup, it might be more efficient for handling localized hit locations, as covering a larger area could increase the cost of procedural mesh generation.
