V-Ray 6 for Houdini Released

The update adds support for Houdini 19.5 features and its ocean tools.

Chaos has launched V-Ray 6 for Houdini, the latest version of the production renderer. The release adds support for Houdini 19.5 and its features such as the Hydra Hair procedural and Solaris Render Region.

You can also make use of a "fully-featured" V-Ray Hydra delegate for Solaris as well as native support for Houdini’s ocean tools. "With more control than ever before, you can render Houdini’s oceans faster, and without the need for texture baking."

In addition, the update introduces improved volumetric rendering to generate more realistic effects like clouds and smoke with support for anisotropic scattering. You can create masks for volumetrics by exporting Cryptomatte elements without using the Volumetric Geometry mode.

Other new features are the ones already implemented in V-Ray 6 for different software:

  • VRayEnmesh – a new system that repeats geometry across the surface of an object without instancing. With Enmesh, artists can create patterns like chainmail, car grills, and fabrics that are ready for a close-up. Enmesh is also memory-efficient.
  • Procedural clouds are now available in V-Ray Sky.
  • Improved Dome Light – a new Finite Dome mode now allows users to control the physical size of their light, according to radius and height.
  • Decal Displacement – VRayDecal can now add displacement to any surface, bringing even more realism to cracked walls, rocks, embossed lettering, and more.
  • Chaos Cosmos – Houdini users now have access to the library of high-resolution materials, beautiful HDR environments, and render-ready 3D models such as plants, trees, bushes, and more.
  • V-Ray Profiler – The tool tracks the calculation time of shaders and volumes in a scene. You can locate all hot spots in the scene and pair the Profiler with Memory Tracking to tackle the monitoring and optimization of your projects.

V-Ray 6 for Maya is available now for Windows, macOS, and Linux. You can get the renderer for $38.9/month with a Solo license, $57.9/month with a Premium license, and $49.9 with an Enterprise license.
