Valve Has Officially Announced Deadlock

The access to the game is still invite-based, but you can wishlist it on Steam.

Valve

After weeks of secrecy, Valve has officially announced Deadlock, giving it a page on Steam and lifting the confidentiality in its Discord community.

Fans have known about Valve's new title for weeks despite the company's secretive policy regarding the project. Playing Deadlock was allowed only by invitation from another player, which, however, led to thousands of people enjoying the game. For instance, in May, there were rumors that "hundreds" of people were playtesting the game in alpha, and in August, the project saw over 18,000 concurrent players. The fans actively shared information about the game's world, including its gameplay and characters, leading to Valve silently acknowledging Deadlock with the game's page on SteamDB and a file for the eponymous trademark.

And finally, the title has got its official Steam page. The description there is quite concise: "Deadlock is a multiplayer game in early development." A note on the page reads: "Deadlock is in early development with lots of temporary art and experimental gameplay." Access to the game still remains limited, either through friend invites or Valve's playtesters.

It was anticipated that Deadlock would be a "competitive third-person 6 vs 6 hero-based shooter set on a sprawling steampunk-meets-fantasy-style map with four lanes." Gabe Follower took to Twitter and shared that Deadlock's hero design was inspired by the Dota universe, and the main map references a modern steampunk European city.

The only official Deadlock video posted on Steam indeed depicts a scene set in a dark city street. Take a look at the screenshots:

On top of that, Valve also officially lifted the rules restricting the community's discussion of Deadlock in its Discord. However, the company confirmed that the project is still in development.

Gabe Follower also shared a glimpse at Deadlock's gameplay, initially posted by an anonymous Valve developer:

The release date is yet to be announced.
