Valve Registered a Mysterious Game Software Trademark for "NEON PRIME"
According to Valve's ex-employee, the trademark may be related to an FTL-like ship-building game.
It became known that Valve registered a new mysterious trademark for "NEON PRIME" which may potentially be a new video game IP from the Half-Life and Portal developer.
The name was registered with the United States Patent and Trademark Office on October 13 and, according to the "Goods, Services, and Codes" section of the filing, it refers to "computer game software, electronic game software, video game software, computer game programs downloadable via the internet." So, the trademark appears to be game-related – it most likely will be a new title or at least related software.
While there is no certainty what this trademark is actually for, ResetEra user finalflame, who is seemingly a former Valve employee, suggests that this IP might refer to an FTL: Faster Than Light-like ship-building game Valve allegedly worked on "once upon a time."
FTL: Faster Than Light is a space simulation game in which players have to pilot their ship and explore a procedurally-generated galaxy. The game was released back in 2012 by Subset Games, the developer also known for Into the Breach.
According to finalflame, Valve has been working on this FTL-like project for a while, so there is a possibility that the company has already abandoned it or decided to delay it.
While it's not clear yet if NEON PRIME relates to a game or another product being in the works at Valve, the company's co-founder and CEO Gabe Newell previously said that Valve currently had multiple games in development noting that the company was keen to make more single-player titles following Half-Life Alyx’s release in March 2020. So, NEON Prime might be one of these games.
