Valve Takes Away Scout's New Pants a Day After Giving Them to Him

The worst thing to happen to BLU Scout since Emesis Blue.

Just one day after changing Scout's pants color in Team Fortress 2, fixing a bug that had been in the game for 17 years, Valve issued another corrective update that took away the annoying Bostonian's new trousers, officially cementing the familiar khaki brown color as the series' canon.

In case you missed all the fun the TF2 community had on October 24, the initial update changed the BLU Scout's pants color, revealing that the original one, present since the game's 2007 release, was actually a bug and not a feature. While such a minor tweak would've gone completely overlooked by most other communities, this is Team Fortress 2 we're talking about – a game held together by memes, hats, and its players rather than regular updates – so it's no surprise that the change became the talk of the town.

While many TF2 fans were busy laughing with or at the update, others expressed genuine concern over Scout's pants cosmetics, many of which were designed around the khaki brown color, questioning whether these too would be changed and redesigned by Valve in future updates.

Apparently, their concerns reached the development team itself, who decided that reworking over a decade's worth of digital slacks wasn't worth the trouble and promptly reverted the change, effectively nullifying one of the most significant and talked-about updates Team Fortress 2 has seen in a while. As for why the cosmetics were overlooked in the first place, your guess is as good as mine.

The community's reaction to the hotfix was about what you'd expect:

The moral of the story? There isn't one. Valve, please just release the Heavy Update so that minor color changes don't become the hottest topic of conversation. Pretty please?
