War Stories: Sid Meier on Making Civilization

Sid Meier discussed the production of the first title of the Civilization series.

Sid Meier is one of the co-creators of the first Civilisation title. Released in 1991, the TBS game let players explore 6 thousand years of world history and build their own civilization.

During the interview, Sid talked about how he and his friend, Bruce Shelley, got up with the idea of the project, the references they relied on, and the comparison with other iconic 90s’ games. He also discussed the problem they faced during the development, and how he turned its direction and make the game in turn-based strategy genre instead of RTS.

Watch the War Stories’ episode to find out the insights into the game’s production.
