Josh Ruben's comedy horror released on June 25, 2021, has a 86% score on Rotten Tomatoes based on 117 reviews.
The Guardian called the new video game movie "a goofy horror comedy" which proves that talented actors, a skilled director, and a great script can create an awesome movie. Rotten Tomatoes' top critics say the movie is delightful, easy to like, and it has just the right balance of gore and hilarious. Werewolves Within also has a 66-point Metascore based on 17 critic reviews.
The movie stars Sam Richardson, Milana Vayntrub, George Basil, Sarah Burns, Michael Chernus, and others. It is based on Ubisoft's multiplayer VR game released in 2016. In the original story, the events happen in a medieval-fantasy town that gets attacked by a werewolf all of a sudden. The players need to figure out who is the evil creature and who is an innocent person that has nothing to do with the horrors happening in the town. In the movie, the story unfolds in a small Vermont town where people get trapped in a snowstorm and realize there is a werewolf hungry for blood among them.
With an 86% score, Werewolves Within is going to be the top title in the Rotten Tomatoes' video game movie rating where the current leaders are The Angry Birds Movie 2 (73%), Pokémon Detective Pikachu (68%), and Sonic the Hedgehog (63%).
