A great tool to make life easier.
3D Artist Samuel Francis, also known as SamHatesUnicorns, demonstrated their WIP auto-terrain generator being developed using Blender's Geometry Nodes. It is already impressive but when it is finished, the tool will make creating terrain fast and easy.
On Reddit, Francis shared the magic behind the project. The artist subdivided the original mesh and made a mask by separating the Z component of the mesh normals to detach the cliffs from the flat surfaces. Then, they added a series of displacements using the mask to elevate flat surfaces and make the cliffs more realistic.
After this, they made a shader using the same technique, applied different materials for different parts of the mesh, and tweaked some values.
