Wizards of the Coast Forms a New AAA Studio, Skeleton Key

The studio will be headed by games industry veteran Christian Dailey and will focus on creating games with "immersive gameplay" and "unique stories".

Hasbro's subsidiary Wizards of the Coast announced it has established a new video game studio called Skeleton Key. The studio will be based in Austin, Texas and will focus on creating AAA games with "immersive gameplay, unique stories, and thought-provoking moments of suspense and horror."

The studio joins the ranks of Wizards of the Coast's North American video game studios which include Archetype Entertainment, Atomic Arcade, Tuque Games, and two studios in Washington State.

While neither Wizards of the Coast nor Skeleton Key announced what the studio's debut project will be, the new entity is already hiring for a number of senior roles including an art director, design director, cinematics director, and senior producer.

In addition, Wizards of the Coast revealed that Christian Dailey is joining the company as vice president and studio head of Skeleton Key. Prior to the company, Dailey worked at BioWare where he mostly served as the executive producer for the Dragon Age franchise. Throughout his two-decade-long career, he also worked in many leadership positions including at such companies as EA and Blizzard Entertainment.

"I am excited to be starting this new adventure with the company that has created so many of my favorite toys and games growing up. Hasbro and Wizards of the Coast have been a huge influence on me, their brands have inspired my pursuit of a lifelong career in video games," Dailey said. "We are looking forward to growing our studio team with more talented creators who share our passion.”
