Raphael Colantonio, a co-creator of Dishonored and Prey, said that some of the Bethesda's and Obsidian's games rely on simulation.

Raphael Colantonio, a co-founder and the former director of Arkane and current lead of WolfEye Studios, shared his thoughts on the immersive sim genre.

The developer called Bethesda Game Studios' and Obsidian Entertainment's games immersive sim games, noting that the overlap between first-person RPG and immersive sim is "very blurry." He continued that the titles of the mentioned companies are "less physical than Arkane games," but states that they "totally rely on simulation," as gameplay actions such as "fooling a merchant by putting a bucket on its head" belong to the genre.

Apart from Skyrim, Colantonio also attributed Baldur's Gate to the aforementioned genre. "I do see Baldur's Gate definitely as at least immersive sim-adjacent," the developer explained. "We always make immersive sims. We've always done them, and we always will," he said in the same interview.

Before, Raphael Colantionio already stated that he is devoted to the immersive sim genre, publishing a tweet that reads "immersive sims until I die." He has also recently shared his thoughts on Arkane Austin's closure, suggesting that though the studio's shutdown is regrettable, it might be an impulse for the emergence of new, small companies that would continue the genre.
