BiteTheBytes has launched World Creator 2024, featuring the ability to design any river with great control, reworked Polygon Layers to enhance the terrain, added support for HDRI maps, and more.
BiteTheBytes has launched World Creator 2024.1, a new version of its real-time GPU-based terrain and landscape creation tool, starting the series of annual updates.
The main feature of this release is the new river system, empowering artists to create any type of river, procedurally or by design. You can either let the software generate the river for you, based on the terrain you see in the viewport, and then modify it by hand, or you can create your own river by placing springs and flow points.
The river system gives you several different ways, which are presented below, to build your network. Automatic generation will analyze your terrain, calculate flow paths, place and connect springs and river nodes, and assign different river types accordingly:

The generate from springs approach gives you full control over where the rivers start as you only have to place the springs and let World Creator handle the river generation downstream from there.

Besides the procedural generators, World Creator 2024.1 offers you the option to fully construct your own graph:

Another key change in this update is the re-introduction of Polygon Layers, originally known as Shape Layers from World Creator 2.
This tool essentially allows you to create any type of polygon shape and use it to design your terrain. With plenty of customization options, you can enhance your terrains with lakes, mountain ranges, or giant holes in the ground. There are also three new filters: Hexagons, Squeeze, and Rocky Layers.

Another update highlighted by the developers is the added support for HDRI maps, allowing you to create advanced renders with custom skyboxes and additional lighting information. Performance updates include fixes for "all AMD issues".
BiteTheBytes has also announced that they have migrated World Creator from .NET 7 to .NET 8 to take advantage of all the improvements.
