Monkeylol set a new record for hitting the maximum level in the game's latest expansion.
A popular MMO tradition among competitive players is the race to reach the highest possible level for characters with each new expansion. As The War Within, the tenth World of Warcraft expansion, just arrived a few days ago, a new record has been set for reaching the updated level cap in the game's history.
While Dragonflight's race lasted three hours, The War Within race was pretty much tightly contested between two players, Shiekrunner and Monkeylol, with the latter claiming the victory and getting from level 70 to, that's right, level 80 in just an hour and one minute.
This might be confusing for players who left the game years ago, as level 80 was the cap back in the days of Wrath of the Lich King. The launch of Shadowlands in 2020 included a level squish, reducing the maximum level from 120 to 50 at the start of the expansion.

Both players shared their strategies for completing the race. Shiekrunner's power-leveling approach involved cleverly exploiting the Blood Elf Heritage questline to farm a hyperspawn, while Monkeylol focused on efficient questing, avoiding main story quests, and going for elite farming and dungeon completion after level 76.
Apparently, there was only a six-minute gap between each player's race to the level cap, so both of the approaches are very effective. The War Within went live on August 26th and is just the beginning of its two-year life cycle, yet it's already intriguing to consider what the next WoW expansion will bring to competitive players.
