Wyatt Cheng: Diablo Immortal Focus Will Remain on Mobile

During a Discord Q&A session, Diablo Immortal director Wyatt Cheng spoke about plans to support the PC version of the game and content updates saying that PC players "will be surprised how well the game plays on phone".

As spotted by WoWHead, Diablo Immortal game director Wyatt Cheng recently took the time to answer community questions about Diablo Immortal on the Immortal Reddit Discord channel. Among other things, he was asked about plans to support the PC version of the game and content updates.

Cheng stated that the focus remains on mobile devices as the main platform for Immortal. The PC port is just trying to provide a better alternative to any emulations. Developers will primarily improve the game for smartphones and tablets, spending less effort on the PC version. At the same time, content updates will be released on both platforms.

Cheng also shared that the interface of the PC version will be based on that of the mobile version. For example, you have to scroll in tooltips on your PC to read the entire text. Besides, Blizzard currently has no plans to add the ability to scale individual UI elements to Diablo Immortal on PC, however, this should not affect the quality of the gameplay.

Speaking of the updates, Cheng noted that the team is "going to be evaluating the value of new classes vs. new legendary items vs. new skills" saying that "they all kinda compete for the same development resources". When asked if new characters would be added to Diablo Immortal, Cheng said that the team "got plans" but admitted that he couldn't provide more information on that.

The director also noted that the mobile version of the action RPG will surprise PC players if they give it a chance. "People in beta know this already, but I think a lot of people will be surprised how well the game plays on phone," he said. "Despite a PC client, despite controller support, despite disliking every other game on the market with 'on-the-glass' touchscreen controls – I think Immortal feels really good in your hands."
