"I want it to have a unique point of view."

In a recent interview, the CEO of Microsoft Gaming and Head of Xbox Phil Spencer shared his opinion on launching expansions for first-party games.
The executive said that "not every game will do expansions," and it depends on the developers' creative vision: "It's really left to the creators what plan they have for their stories." He also pointed out that expansions can attract former players who don't play the game at the time and renew their interest: "I think it's a great way for us to reengage players who may be lapsed."
Spencer also noted: "I don't like expansions that are manipulative," and commented on the goal of DLCs: "I want it to have a unique point of view. I don't want it to be, like, the third level that you cut before you launched."

Recently, the executive also talked about bringing more titles to different platforms and explained why Indiana Jones and the Great Circle will launch not only on Xbox but also on PlayStation 5.
