"Videos featuring Balatro gameplay should not be age-restricted."
LocalThunk has had a bit more luck this time tackling age restriction issues for Balatro-related YouTube videos marked as 18+. The resolution process is progressing more quickly than the previous PEGI rating fights, which lasted nearly a year. The video-sharing platform is now conducting a "platform-wide review" to fix this mistake.
"Good thing we are protecting children from knowing what a 4 of a kind is and letting them watch CS case opening videos instead," LocalThunk wrote on April 6, sharing a video from content creator Balatro University who got affected by the policy updates from YouTube regarding online gambling contents. 119 out of the 660 videos on their channel now became age-restricted after they've been online for a whole year.
"TY for flagging! Videos featuring Balatro gameplay should not be age-restricted," TeamYouTube replied to LocalThunk's post on X/Twitter, admitting it was a mistake to have them behind an age wall and they're working on correcting them, which might take some time.
"On one hand, progress is slow; On the other hand, this is seemingly the fastest YouTube has responded to anything, ever, so I’m thankful for that," Balatro University told The Verge.
Let's hope it won't take long for them to have it corrected, as these limitations affect the views those videos can generate, which in turn impacts the revenue of content creators.
