Video games get turned into movies and series surprisingly frequently in recent years, and it looks like we are finally past the "all game adaptations are bad" stigma, with the huge success of Arcane and HBO's The Last of Us.
What other famous titles could benefit from becoming movies? Director Zack Snyder, who was behind Superman, Man of Steel, and Justice League, shared his ideas with IGN, saying he's interested in Gears of War and Halo.
“We’ve talked about a bunch of… Gears has always come up in our sort of circle,” he continued. “I was always interested in the Halo franchise… They of course kind of made that, but it was something I always thought could be incredible.”
Yes, the Halo series is already on Paramount Plus and has a second season coming, but wouldn't it be interesting to see Snyder's version? It's not clear if the director just shared his appreciation of the franchise or if he's thinking of making his own version.
As for Gears of War, Netflix is working on a live-action feature film and an adult animated series, and Jon Spaihts (Dune, Doctor Strange, The Mummy) is writing the script for the former.
In response to Snyder's comment, the Gears of War creator Cliff Bleszinski said that he approves but only if Dave Bautista plays Marcus Fenix – something Bautista really wants and isn't afraid to talk about.
Snyder is now busy with Rebel Moon, so no game films from here any time soon I presume, but I am definitely looking forward to what he can come up with.
