Netflix has announced that Gears of War will be adapted into a live-action feature film and an adult animated series, "with the potential for more stories to follow". The company is partnering with The Coalition, the developers of the game series.
The announcement was made on the day of the franchise's 16th anniversary: the first game was released on November 7, 2006.
The Gears of War games follow the protagonist fighting subterranean creatures known as Locusts and trying to save humanity.
