3D Artist Recreated Iconic Unicorn Gundam Transformation Scene In Blender

Take a closer look at アーフュ's detailed rig and textures.

3D Artist known as アーフュ has recreated the famous transformation sequence of the titular mobile suit from Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn to activate enhanced combat features, a fan-favorite moment of the show featured even in the full-scale statue located in Odaiba, Tokyo Bay.

Of course, the behind-the-scenes stuff is a real treat for anyone into animation and 3D modeling. According to the artist, the rig used to bring RX-0 Unicorn Gundam to life is driven by 154 bones. They also noted that one of the biggest challenges was incorporating IK, as the mobile suit's height changes during the transformation into Destroy Mode.
