Check out CoolioArt's take on the iconic velociraptor scenes.
Obviously, Hollywood movies aren't known for their scientific accuracy, and the Jurassic Park series is no exception. Whatever the reason, be it technical limitations, outdated reconstructions, or simply a desire to make them look or sound cooler, its portrayal of dinosaurs is sometimes fairly accurate based on the knowledge available back then, but other times, it's so far off that even viewers with basic paleontology knowledge can easily spot the inaccuracies.
For example, velociraptor, the first dinosaur seen in Jurassic Park, appears to have had little effort put into creating a reasonably realistic design. 3D Artist CoolioArt, a huge dinosaur enthusiast, offered a fresh, more accurate look at these iconic creatures, recreating two famous scenes, the kitchen scene and the T-Rex vs. raptors encounter (sadly, with no T-Rex yet):
However, the animal depicted in this remake is not a velociraptor. As the artist explained, the raptors are actually oversized Deinonychus antirrhopus, as was the case in both the books and the original film. However, they were mistakenly categorized under the genus Velociraptor, making them Velociraptor antirrhopus. This is different from Velociraptor mongoliensis, the species we know as velociraptor.
"The real Deinonychus antirrhopus was about half the size of these guys on average, definitely still able to kill a human, though! Otherwise, I have tried to keep them completely faithful to the real dinosaur", commented CoolioArt.
The raptors were modeled, animated, and rendered in Blender, and the final video compositing was done in After Effects.
