Have a look at 4D People, a collection of next-gen scanned humans for visualization, games, VFX, VR, AR, and everything metaverse.
If you were looking for a way to populate your scenes with realistic-looking digital humans, here's a great new library that you will definitely find useful. Meet 4D People, a collection of next-gen scanned humans for visualization, games, VFX, VR, AR, and everything metaverse, created by Renderpeople. Each model contains a high-res mesh and texture sequence, which have been captured in one of the world's leading volumetric studios operated by Volucap.
The developers were also kind enough to share the workflow behind their digital humans: "The 36 high-resolution cameras recorded every 4D People model with a total resolution of more than 700 megapixels. These custom cameras are normally used for areas like space applications or crash test analysis. Due to the extremely high precision and color accuracy, they are perfectly suited for the volumetric scanning of moving persons. From the data stream of more than two terabytes per minute, the 3D model is then generated into a 4D People model. The volumetric model contains the entire movement and performance of the actor."
"In addition to the custom cameras used in the volumetric scanner, the light setup is also essential for creating a true-to-life 4D People model. An array of 250 ARRI Skypannels is used in the volumetric studio for the overall lighting. These panels can be individually controlled to create any dynamic, colored lighting mood or to create a very homogeneous diffuse lighting. What's unique about this volumetric scanning method is that every small detail, such as wrinkles in the face or clothing, is recorded and not artificially generated or animated," commented the development team. "The texture and mesh sequences are then processed and can be used as 3D assets in many 3D applications. The final 4D People models are compatible with all common 3D applications, no plug-ins required."
The models are compatible with 3ds Max (V-Ray/Corona/Octane/Native), Maya (V-Ray/Native), Cinema 4D (V-Ray for C4D/Corona/Octane/Native), Blender (Cycles/Eevee), and Alembic. If you want to try out the 4D People models, download the free 4D People model here.
