The artist used the VFX capabilities of the new engine to make this cool-looking effect.
A VFX Artist and one of the makers of The Matrix Awakens Matt Radford has unveiled a new stunning project that demonstrates the VFX capabilities of the recently-released Unreal Engine 5. This time, the artist has shown a shattering earth effect that was fully set up in UE5. According to the artist, the project was made using new real-time 3D fluid tools that were introduced with the 5.0 version of Unreal.
"I was going for cinematics so I let it run real-time in the viewport to iterate, then I’ll up the pressure iterations and resolution and fire off a render. It’s like ILM’s plume right now in that there’s no caching, just images," commented Matt on the performance of the final render. "It took 60 seconds for this render to bake out."
