A First-Person Arena Shooter With Mind-Bending Fractal Maps Inspired By SpongeBob

Spaceflux 1.0 version is coming out soon.

If you are a big fan of FPSs and always prefer to see tweaks to this genre, here's Spaceflux, a first-person arena shooter with mind-bending fractal maps developed by Calin Ardelean using Unreal Engine.

"Fight in an impossible battle arena where the map contains itself in a never-ending loop." As shown in the trailer, there are infinite copies of the map, each with a version of you on it. While engaging in hyper-fast PvP combat with two to four players, try to navigate the fractals carefully and be cautious not to accidentally shoot yourself. Not only you, but also your opponents have duplicates. To defeat them, just target any of their copies.

If the fractal space sounds tricky enough, there are five other impossible spaces awaiting: Horizontal Loop, where the map repeats infinitely in all directions; Minimap, where a mini version of the map exists within the map, and so on infinitely; Mirror Mode, where both the map and you are reflected; Portals which transport you to another place in the map and Vertical Loop that makes you fall forever.

The inspiration behind this game, according to the developer, is an episode of SpongeBob:

The following clips showcase how the vertical loop, mirror mode, and mini map work, giving us insight into the unique mechanics, challenges, and design:

After being in Early Access for four years and receiving mostly positive reviews on Steam, the development team has announced that its full launch will soon arrive, bringing brand new single player Horde Mode as well as lots of content updates. If you're interested in getting your hands on it, don't hesitate to check it out there.
