A Minecraft Movie, which had everyone wondering whether it would be a smashing hit or a cinematic disaster, has finally arrived, proving all critics wrong by becoming an instant success and earning Warner Bros. $301 million on its opening weekend.

With an impressive 87% viewer rating on Rotten Tomatoes, the Minecraft Movie earned $157 million domestically and $144 million overseas in its first three days since release, surpassing the $146.4 million three-day domestic debut of The Super Mario Bros. Movie and marking the most successful video game adaptation opening in the US.
In terms of overall earnings, A Minecraft Movie has already become the third-highest-grossing film of 2025 in less than a week, trailing only behind Captain America: Brave New World with $411 million – a figure A Minecraft Movie can be expected to surpass in the coming weeks – and the Chinese animated film Ne Zha 2, which brought in an astounding $1.9 billion at the box office.
Furthermore, the $301 million gross has covered the film's $150 million production budget, however, with marketing costs remaining undisclosed, it's unclear whether the film has fully recouped its total expenditure as of yet. Still, given its strong start, it's not impossible for A Minecraft Movie to follow in the footsteps of The Super Mario Bros. Movie and eventually surpass the billion-dollar mark, becoming the second video game adaptation in recent years to be praised by audiences, break records at the box office, and yet be panned by movie critics.
