Lead Game Artist at Nordeus Nikola Damjanov has recently shared a brand new approach to creating high-quality 3D materials using Houdini and Substance 3D Sampler. According to the artist, the method consists of generating geometry and Height Maps in Houdini, scanning objects and surfaces, adding various layers to a material with Sampler, and using AI as the starting point. The goal of the entire project was to explore quicker methods of material authoring.
Additionally, the author shared a sizable collection of materials using the new approach:
