A Stylized Take on Final Fantasy's Cloud Strife

The artist utilized ZBrush, Maya, Substance 3D Painter, XGen, and V-Ray to create the model.

3D Artist Nicolas de Aquino, who specializes primarily in creating stylized versions of famous characters, has unveiled a more cartoonish take on Final Fantasy VII's protagonist and the face of the series Cloud Strife.

Inspired by the original game and Studio Ghibli's animated movies, the model was created as a tribute to one of the artist's favorite games and features extremely-detailed materials and textures faithful to reality and to Square Enix's timeless masterpiece. According to Nicolas, the model was made and rendered using ZBrush, Maya, Substance 3D Painter, XGen, and V-Ray.

"Throughout the project, I sought to balance fidelity to the character's origins with my own creative vision," comments the creator. "It was important to me that all materials respond correctly to different light conditions and that each accessory of the character tells a little bit about his adventures."

He looks about 9 years old. Like he's about to throw water balloons at his neighbours. Takes away from the serious, brooding personality he's meant to have.
