Adobe's New R&D Allows Artists To Edit 3D Models With Brush Strokes

This new approach could be a game-changer for procedural production.

Adobe has recently shared a look at their research project that will potentially allow artists to control parametric 3D models simply via simple brush strokes. The project was originally presented at this year's SIGGRAPH.

The new system was described in the research paper called DAG Amendment for Inverse Control of Parametric Shapes, which discusses a new intuitive approach to editing 3D models.

What if a simple brush stroke can let you change the size of objects or tweak individual shapes? The new model interprets the user's actions automatically and tweaks models accordingly.

Please note that this is currently just a research project, not a feature in beta which means that the team is not yet ready to implement the ability. It'd be amazing though to use this approach in Substance Painter or Substance Designer boosting procedural production.

You can find the full paper here. The part about the research in the video above starting around 13:24. Also, don't forget to join our new Reddit pageour new Telegram channel, follow us on Instagram and Twitter, where we are sharing breakdowns, the latest news, awesome artworks, and more.
