Amazon Announces Its Own AI Chatbot for Businesses

Q can build apps, troubleshoot, and hold a conversation.

Every major company wants a chatbot, and Amazon is no exception. Following OpenAI's ChatGPT, Google's Bard, and Microsoft's Copilot, the company has previewed Q, a new AI-powered assistant for businesses.

Q was created for work and can be tailored to a customer's business. With it, you can build applications on AWS, resolve errors, get assistance in coding, and more.

"Trained on 17 years of AWS knowledge and best practices, Amazon Q is designed to help you at each stage of development with a new experience for building applications on AWS. With Amazon Q, you minimize the time and effort you need to gain the knowledge required to answer AWS questions, explore new AWS capabilities, learn unfamiliar technologies, and architect solutions that fuel innovation."

Like with any chatbot, you can have a conversation with Q learn new things, research best practices, and iterate on how to build applications. You can be very specific with your questions, and the bot will provide you with the best possible answer based on its knowledge. To start using it, you just need to select the Amazon Q icon on the right-hand side of the AWS Management Console.

This capability is integrated into the Management Console, AWS Console Mobile Application, AWS Documentation, AWS websites, and Slack and Teams through AWS Chatbot.

Q will also help you optimize Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) by giving you personalized recommendations so you can pick the right instance type and settings and make sure your workloads run smoothly.

Additionally, Amazon Q can solve errors directly in the console so you don't have to check logs manually. "Amazon Q provides concise analysis of the error which helps you to understand the root cause of the problem and the proposed resolution. With this information, you can follow the steps described by Amazon Q to fix the issue."

This feature is available in preview in the US West (Oregon) for Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2), Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3), Amazon ECS, and AWS Lambda.

Q's troubleshooting works on network connectivity issues too. However, this capability is currently available in preview in the US East (N. Virginia) only.

Amazon Q is also available in supported IDEs and will provide help within your IDE if you type / in the chat box. Then, you can improve your app, ask Q to generate code, and more. This is available in Visual Studio Code and JetBrains IDEs now.

Moreover, the chatbot will turn your prompt into implementation steps, upgrade applications with Amazon Q Code Transformation, and more.

Amazon Q will cost $20 per person per month once the preview period ends. If your business needs additional features for developers and IT workers, it will be $25. During the preview, it's available for free.
